BlueTech Forum is proud to announce the success of Hydrovolts’ Big Canal Turbine! The revolutionary in-stream hydrokinetic turbine generates renewable energy from water currents.  The turbine was dropped and secured into Roza Canal March 28th and generated more power than they had originally planned.

Burt Hamner, CEO of Hydrovolts says it’s their biggest milestone yet. “The Big Canal Turbine dove into the Big Canal  and made more power than we planned, in a totally smooth installation that left us all feeling, “That’s it?   No drama?  No crisis? We’re done already?  It WORKS!  Wow!” says Hamner. “We have more to learn about spacing of turbines.  But, it’s obvious that once the turbine is installed and working, only 200 feet downstream the water has regained its velocity and is pretty laminar flow.”

Hydrovolts’ new hydropower technology taps an abundant but overlooked source of renewable energy from water currents in canals and channels around the world. “There are a million-plus miles of suitable canals out there. It’s like the world is covered in highways of water, and we just invented the first car.” says Hamner in a story EarthTechling featured last December.

Hydrovolts will be exhibiting in the Releasing Energy from Water Showcase of the 2012 BlueTech Forum. This start up company based in Seattle is committed to the development of sustainable communities supported by renewable hydrokinetic energy.  Their business model is to provide a cost-effective technology and training and consultation in how to apply it with community support.  This drives our commitment to adaptability, transparency and building trust with our partners and customers.
