The BlueTech Water Innovation in the Beverage Industry session will feature corporate case studies from The Coca-Cola Company, with special innovation spotlights on several companies: Nutrinsic and Cambrian Innovation. The session will be held on Monday, September 29th, 4-5pm in the Innovation Showcase theater.

 

Dr. Paul Bowen, Director of Sustainable Solutions, The Coca-Cola Company

Dr. Paul Bowen is the Director, Sustainable Operations within the Safety & Environmental Sustainability Team of Quality Safety & Environment at The Coca-Cola Company, where he has been since 1999. He serves as a technical expert for developing water reuse with corporate quality standards and SME on water and wastewater treatment issues for The Coca-Cola Company worldwide

Dr. Bowen is the company’s representative on the Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable (BIER), an organization he helped start. Outside of The Coca-Cola Company, he served as a member of the Water Environment Federation Board of Trustees and on the Board of Directors for Water for People. Dr. Bowen has a MS and Ph.D. in Environmental Systems Engineering from Clemson University.  

 

Leo Gingras, CEO, Nutrinsic

Leo Gingras, Nutrinsic

Leo Gingras is currently the CEO of Nutrinsic Corporation. He served 5 years as the President and COO of NutraCea (now Rice Bran Technologies Inc.), a public company engaged in production of food and feed ingredients derived from rice bran. During this time he acquired a Brazilian operation and served as its CEO. He spent 20 years with Riceland Foods of Arkansas in several technical and management roles. His last position at Riceland was Vice President of Soy Processing and Technical Services where he managed a $600 million business unit in addition to other corporate responsibilities.

He began his 30+ year career in the animal and human nutrition industry with the Lou Ana division of Ventura Foods, spending 6 years in various technical and front line supervisory roles. Mr. Gingras has a BS degree in biology/chemistry from Saint Anselm College and MS (biology) and MBA degrees from the University of Louisiana.

 

Dr. Justin Buck, CTO, Cambrian Innovation

Justin Buck, Cambrian Innovation

As co-founder and CTO of Cambrian Innovation, Dr. Justin Buck is a chemical and biological engineer with significant industry and academic experience. He is inventor of Cambrian’s sensor platform and Principal Investigator of its National Science Foundation sensor project. Dr. Buck has been co-investigator on a range of projects at Cambrian ranging from genetic engineering of electrogenic bacteria to design of pilot-scale bioelectrochemical systems.

Prior to joining Cambrian Innovation, Dr. Buck worked in the oil and gas divisions of Washington Group International (now URS Corp) as a chemical process engineer. Justin has experience in plant operation and improvement engineering under Dow Chemical Company. Dr. Buck earned his BS in Chemical Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines and his PhD in Biological Engineering from MIT.
