Henrik is the co-founder and CEO of CustoMem, a company manufacturing novel bio-based materials to selectively capture and remove harmful pollutants from water. He is responsible for the operation of CustoMem, advancing the technology, developing business models and raising investment.

He won a prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering 1851 Enterprise Fellowship, was the first two-time winner of the IET award and, when completing his 1st class Masters in Bioengineering at Imperial College London, was awarded the 2015 outstanding achievement medal. His published research includes the intersection of synthetic biology with biomaterials (Florea, Hagemann et al. PNAS 2016). Outside of research and entrepreneurship he has cycled the Silk Road from China to Denmark in 87 days, a 9350 km journey, and lived and trained Kung Fu (wushu) with Shaolin monks in Henan, China.
