Aqualia is the water management company owned by the citizen services group FCC (51%) and by the Australian ethical fund IFM Investors (49%), serving close to 25 M customers in 1000 communities in over 20 countries.

Aqualia is Europe’s fourth largest private water company in terms of population served and ranks amongst the top ten worldwide (GWI, November 2017). We have achieved this position by rendering full service and being capable of providing solutions that satisfy the needs of public and private entities and organisations throughout all phases of the water cycle, regardless of whether the purpose is for human, farming or industrial use.

With a dedicated R&D department, the company have been working for years in the development of technologies that can transform wastewater into a useful resource and radically change the paradigm of produce-use-dispose.

Aqualia participates in around 15 large projects within EU research and development programs, such as LIFE or Horizon 2020, collaborating with more than 20 universities and research centres in both Spain and across Europe. Geared towards sustainability and the circular economy, at the moment, the main efforts are aimed at achieving the use of wastewater for biofuel and higher value products such as fertilisers and plastics.
