Noelene joined Barrick in 2006, having previously worked at Placer Dome, and BHP Billiton. She has been involved in metallurgical testing and flowsheet development for various Barrick operations and projects. Particularly in her role in the Strategic Technology Solutions group, Noelene has worked on a wide variety of research projects, and interests include pressure, atmospheric and biological leaching, arsenic and mercury chemistry, and anything unusual in the world of hydrometallurgy, water and environmental science!

In 2015 she took on a role at AuTec, a Barrick-owned testing facility for the mining and metallurgical industry, as the Senior Technical Manager, before returning to Barrick late 2017 to focus on innovations in water. Noelene is a graduate of the University of Natal and Cape Town in South Africa (Masters in applied Science), and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (PhD).
